Why choose an oil lamp?

Because it combines gentle light, authentic charm, and true practicality. An oil lamp offers:

• Independence (no electricity) and material simplicity.
• Warm and intimate ambiance for the living room, reading nook, or dining table.
• Unique decorative object (copper, crystal, bamboo, rattan, ceramic…).
• Supplemental lighting useful in case of a power outage.
• Indoor and outdoor use (balcony, patio, camping) depending on the models.

Which oil should be used for an oil lamp?

Two families dominate. Vegetable oils (e.g.: olive, rapeseed) perpetuate the tradition; they burn well with a suitable wick but may emit a light odor. Deodorized paraffin/mineral oils are now favored: they are cleaner, stable, and limit soot/smoke for a clearer result. In any case, use quality oil and a clean reservoir to maintain brightness and safety.

How to use and maintain an oil lamp?

Fill the reservoir to 2/3 full, adjust the wick (2–3 mm visible is sufficient to avoid smoke), light it, then let the capillarity work. Regularly trim the wick with clean scissors, clean the container and clear glass for a stable flame. Always place the lamp on a flat surface, away from fabrics, curtains, and pathways; never leave it unattended.
